INLAND OCEAN COALITION
Re-vamping the brand of a non-profit that gives inland communities a voice in protecting our oceans.
Inland Ocean Coalition (IOC) is a non-profit organization committed to protecting and conserving oceanic ecosystems throughout North America. The organization was selected as the beneficiary of Denver AD club’s Ad Hack 2022, where myself and a small team of copywriters, marketing strategists, and creative leaders banded together to present them with a number of deliverables, pro-bono.
The Challenge
IOC was faced with multiple challenges including low brand recognition and limited online visibility. The Ad Hack team pitched the following solutions to their problems: a comprehensive rebrand, including the development of a new visual identity, creation of original long form blog content, and development of effective SEO strategies.
Myself and the volunteer team’s creative director, Kyle Asperger (of Studio 301), collaborated to create a refreshed, modern brand for IOC.

The Research & Brand Design Process
The AD Hack team conducted thorough market research to gain insights into IOC’s target audience. By identifying key messages, core values, and platforms with which their audience engaged with, the team developed a clear strategic direction for the rebranding process.
I myself performed an assessment of the existing brand to identify visual strengths and weaknesses, and put together that information with a mood board to present to Kyle and the client. After the art direction was refined and accepted, I began the iterative process of designing the brand’s logo, first through sketches, then completing the design in Adobe Illustrator.
The final deliverables of the brand re-design included a logo with multiple lockups, color palette, typography, and comprehensive brand guidelines.
Social Media Templates
As the icing on the cake, I also designed two Canva templates for the IOC to use when posting announcements on their Instagram and Facebook pages, ensuring that their new brand would be featured on all platforms
